From Zulu "Velile" meaning "She has arrived"Hello and welcome to my website! I'm not exactly what you'd call a whiz kid on computers, so please don't expect too much-I'm just keeping it simple and effective!
I've always wanted to perform from a very young age, but coming from a family with no background in the entertainment business at all was a challenge (which I'm always up for, mind!) My Dad thought I still wanted to be a nurse, which I told him when I was about six (sorry Dad!) It all appeared as some phase that I'd soon grow out of...it didn't-I'm twenty six now and still as hungry for it as ever!
Ok Vel, you're starting to waffle again... Luckily, a close friend of my aunt's and our family told her about The Sylvia Young Theatre School, which I started attending on Saturdays from the age of fourteen and loved. It was great to go to my regular school during the week, then to my acting, singing and dance classes at the weekends. I was introduced to an agent at sixteen and worked professionally on a couple of small jobs, but I discovered I'd gained my first major job when I was eighteen, as I walked out of my last A Level exam, starring as a lead in a new CBBC programme (Kerching!) Let's just say I'm lucky the men in white coats didn't come for me as I ran down the street screaming!!
At the time, it was actually a choice between signing up for the role, or accepting a place at a top theatre school I'd just been chosen for. The advice given to me was to go for the first option, which I did, so I more or less got started in this industry by being thrown in right at the deep end! Not that I'm complaining, as since then, I have been fortunate enough to have worked with fantastic people, companies and in great venues: Theatre Royal Stratford East, MTV, extensively for the BBC, Doctor Who Productions, to name a few.
I also have urban dance and singing ability and experience in modeling.
My passion for what I do grows every day and I love the fact that I always learn something new to aid my growth as an artiste on every job I do-be it big or small.
My main devotion is, obviously, my family, whom I absolutely adore and who feed my ambition and determination with their endless love and support.
Well, I think that's more than enough from me! Lots of of love, God bless and ENJOY!xx
